International Paper’s recycling solutions and services manage fiber recovery programs for retailers, grocers, e-commerce, distribution centers, manufacturers, and our own box plants. We design closed-loop recycling programs that move old corrugated containers (OCC) and other fiber-based recycling materials efficiently from your back-of-house to our paper mills, where they become new containerboard for tomorrow’s packaging.

Sustainable Forests

It starts in the forest. We rely on new fiber from sustainably managed forests alongside recycled fiber to make sustainable packaging solutions.

Fresh Pulp

Fresh pulp plays an important role in making quality products.
Fiber can only be recycled so many times before it starts to break down.

Supplementing recycled fiber with fresh pulp helps protect the structural integrity of our boxes,
keeping them strong and high-performance.

Our ForSite™ technology is an innovative mapping system that guides our responsible fiber procurement while helping to ensure we are meeting our conservation goals.

About Forsite

Paper Mills

Our paper mills manufacture containerboard using a blend of new and recycled fiber collected by our recycling team. Our operations focus on efficiency and resource stewardship, including conservation and reuse of water and energy.

Converter

At our converting box plant facilities, large rolls of containerboard from our mills are converted into sheets through corrugators and other equipment. As sheets are cut and prepared, double-lined kraft waste paper (DLK) clippings are generated, and this pre-consumer fiber is collected and returned to the mill system.

Box Makers

Box makers take converted sheets and create finished boxes and displays for retail, ecommerce, grocers, and more. While International Paper provides packaging products and solutions to other box makers, we are also often the converter and box maker in this loop.

Box Users

Retailers, distribution centers, and other commercial users receive goods, unload them, and set aside used corrugated boxes. Many of these box users are our recycling customers.

Recycling Plants

Our recycling facilities manage fiber streams by collecting, consolidating, baling, and ensuring quality. We coordinate logistics routed directly to our mills, completing the loop.

FAQs

What materials do you handle?

We collect and manage over 200 grades of recyclable materials that we either use at our mills or deliver to third-party manufacturers.

Take a more detailed look at the wide range of materials we recycle.

Can you support multiple locations and seasonal peaks?

Yes. We build national programs with coordinated scheduling, surge planning, and routing direct to mills.

Do you provide reporting?

Yes. International Paper Recycling offers an on-demand web-based portal where you can view detailed pricing information, track your shipment status by load, date range and grade, access up-to-date payment information, review an overall summary by material/grade and volume trends, and even print a Certificate of Destruction, if applicable.”

Do your facilities sort mixed materials like an MRF?

No. We focus on collecting commercial recycling. We work with customers to place equipment suitable for their needs to separate materials on site, and we manage quality, baling, consolidation, and logistics. However, we do work with local Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) to procure additional recycling materials that have been pre-sorted.

How do you price?

Pricing reflects current market conditions, program details and service requirements.
