Forestland Stewards, our conservation partnership with the National Fish and Wildlife, is one of the most effective public-private forest conservation partnerships in the United States. It is designed to restore native forests, strengthen important fish and wildlife populations, and protect watersheds — while at the same time promoting and supporting working forests.
Each year the program has grown stronger and had an ever larger impact. The great progress we’ve made underscores International Paper’s commitment to ensure healthy forest ecosystems for generations to come. It is a winning scenario that conserves and restores some of nature’s most amazing treasures, provides economic value for landowners and communities, and ensures a sustainable supply of wood to make products that people depend on every day.
During the first five years, Forestland Stewards has leveraged International Paper's initial $7.5 million investment to generate more than $24.5 million in matching contributions for a total of $32 million. In 2017, International Paper renewed its commitment and pledged to increase its investment to $10 million over the next five years. With the renewal, the partnership aims to restore, protect and enhance an additional 300,000 acres of forest habitat for a total conservation impact of more than 540,000 acres.
International Paper took top honors in PR Daily’s 2017 Corporate Social Responsibility Awards in the 'Corporate-Community or Nonprofit Partnership' category for Forestland Stewards.
