International Paper has a preference for certified wood. Our global certification policy addresses fiber procurement and forest and fiber certification practices around the world through recognition of credible certification programs including the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI), the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), and other PEFC endorsed programs such as the American Tree Farm System® (ATFS) and Cerflor.
As a global paper, packaging and distribution company, International Paper has to maintain a certain level of operational flexibility to meet the needs of our shareholders and customers throughout the world, especially when it comes to fiber and chain of custody certification.
We are actively working with our suppliers on several initiatives specifically focused on increasing the area of certified forests in the United States and globally. By supporting programs like FSC®, SFI®, PEFC and ATFS, we are giving our customers a choice when it comes to certified products and supporting our goal to increase the total volume of certified fiber in our system.
