International Paper's Environmental Policy in Europe

For more than a century, International Paper's business has been founded on three equally important sustainability goals: environmental excellence, social responsibility and financial success.

We strive to lead by example, and sustainability is at the core of our operating philosophy.  From seedlings through to finished products, International Paper wisely manages its business with an active contribution towards sustainable forestry management, while ensuring the health and safety of our employees in the work environment.

Our facility network across Europe has set the highest environmental objectives in compliance with the overall International Paper's Environment Health & Safety (EHS) worldwide commitment.

International Paper's position as a leading European supplier of paper, packaging and forest products gives us the responsibility to take a position regarding the environment.  We have set and reached ambitious goals in order to meet environmental standards and the expectations of our customers.  They succeed because our innovative products and services help them meet their customers' need for environmentally friendly goods.  To ensure our compliance with environmental regulations, we undergo certification procedures, carried out by independent third-party organizations, certifying the sustainable nature of our management practices.

International Paper has a long-standing policy of using no wood from endangered forests.

International Paper supports mutual recognition of forest certification standards.  We have encouraged the adoption of CERFLOR, the SFI Standard and other systems recognized by the global Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) council.  The PEFC-endorsed systems around the globe, including the SFI program, now account for an area larger than the combined forest area of all 25 member countries of the European Union.
