Government Relations Director, IP Russia
Sergei Tanaschuk joined International Paper Russia as director, government relations in March 2009. Earlier, as deputy vice president, international affairs, TNK-BP, he managed international lobbying activities for TNK-BP, Russia's third largest oil company and a 50/50 joint venture with BP.
Tanaschuk’s background also includes government relations, public affairs, investor and media relations experience gained in communications consultancies and large Russian companies. He also used to be a career diplomat, serving in Soviet / Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C. in 1989-1993, where he helped build bilateral trade and business ties between the two countries.
Upon his return to Russia in 1993, Tanaschuk was actively involved in managing two USAID-financed projects (commercial banker training; setting up a business investment fund).
Tanaschuk holds a master’s in international affairs from Moscow Institute for International Relations and a master’s in economics from Higher School of Economics in Moscow.
