International Paper in Russia

International Paper started its operations in Russia in 1998 with the acquisition of the Svetogorsk pulp & paper mill, one of the largest pulp and paper mills in Russia.

In Russia, International Paper focuses on the production and marketing of office and offset papers, liquid packaging board and bleached chemical thermo-mechanical. In total, International Paper has invested over $700 million in the upgrade and modernization of the Svetogorsk pulp & paper mill operations.

The company’s Russian footprint also includes a 50:50 joint venture Ilim Group, the largest integrated paper and pulp manufacturer in Russia with total $1.2B capital expansion projects at Bratsk and Koryazhma, funded by the JV. International Paper is a responsible investor with serious commitments to develop sustainable forestry, environmental and social projects which benefit the Russian community. International Paper’s most well-known brands in Russia are Ballet and SvetoCopy.
