Giving Direct Mail Envelopes A Face Lift
The Challenge
Direct mail selling opportunities are improving with increased consumer resistance to telemarketing calls and Internet “spam.” The direct mail industry, however, still needs to continually improve the impact of its mailings, which start with the envelope.

The IP Innovation

To enable direct mail envelope manufacturers to meet the evolving need for sophisticated, high-impact graphics, International Paper has developed four new glossy envelope papers – Postmark® C1S (coated-one-side) gloss and matte finish and Postmark® C2S (coated-two-side) gloss and matte finish envelope papers. All provide outstanding print performance with rich colors, exceptional image reproduction and excellent “ink holdout,” which prevents fuzzy words and images. The superior print gloss enables premium graphics to leap off the envelope. The matte finished grades eliminate glare and reflection for subtle sophistication. The papers have the right amount of bulk and stiffness for improved convertibility and are available in a range of basis weights.

For direct mail envelopes where there is a need for brighter, richer colors with crisp, sharp print details, International Paper developed Postmark® Plus™. An uncoated sheet, it has a patented printing surface that delivers excellent image sharpness and quality. It also provides gloss approaching that of a coated sheet, but is more economical. It’s also available in a variety of basis weights.
