New York, NY - March 17, 2008 - Shorewood Packaging, a business of International Paper, announces the opening of its new folding carton manufacturing facility just outside Shanghai in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, Peoples' Republic of China.
On March 20, Shorewood Packaging Kunshan will welcome more than 100 guests, including customers from 19 consumer products companies, representatives from the Kunshan and Shanghai governments and local media. The opening ceremony will be presided over by John Faraci, chairman and CEO of International Paper; Tom Gestrich, president of IP Asia; and Lucy Tzou, general manager of Shorewood Packaging, IP Asia.
"The expansion of Shorewood Packaging in Asia aligns with our business strategy to grow where our customers are growing, enabling us to meet their needs for quality packaging," said Ethel Scully, senior vice president of Shorewood's Consumer Products Business.
"The launch of this facility creates the opportunity to build closer relationships with an increasing number of consumer products companies seeking packaging in the rapidly-growing domestic market in China," said Lucy Tzou.
Shorewood Packaging Kunshan will serve both domestic China and international customers in several key market segments - most notably cosmetics, fragrances, personal care, confectionery and over-the-counter pharmaceuticals.
The new 120,000 square-foot Shorewood Kunshan facility features digital prepress, computer-to-plate (CTP) technology, offset lithography, in-house foil stamping and embossing, as well as converting and finishing capabilities.
This announcement reflects Shorewood's commitment to its global investment program, which includes the installation of new equipment at several of its facilities and the recent opening of the new Shorewood Design and Development Center in Carlstadt, N.J.
