New York, NY - May 12, 2008 - Shorewood Packaging, a business of International Paper, is proud to announce that The Bourne Files - the DVD gift set designed and produced for NBC Universal - has received awards in two prestigious packaging competitions. This package exemplifies the close design collaboration possible between Shorewood's Special Packaging Team and its customers' creative teams in the development of exciting packaging solutions. The Bourne Files was one of 100 winners of Graphic Design: USA's (GDUSA) annual "American Package Design Awards" competition, which spotlights packaging and display designs and other communication vehicles that best influence how, when and where consumers make their purchasing decisions. It is featured in the magazine's "Package and In-store Design Awards" annual. This special package was also honored with a GOLD Award - one of 10 awards earned by Shorewood - in the 2008 National Paperboard Packaging Competition sponsored by the Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC). This annual award program honors the best packaging in the industry in terms of quality, service and innovation. "We are thrilled to see this package receive accolades from both of these well-respected organizations, especially since it bears the creative stamp of both NBC Universal and Shorewood," said Karen Mika, senior vice president of Shorewood's home entertainment business.
"Shorewood provided us with a creative and dynamic solutions for our Bourne Files package. The title even ended up selling well beyond expectations!" said NBC Universal Creative Director Jamie Dehavilland. This unique DVD gift set was developed for NBC Universal to showcase the first two movies in its Bourne series: The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy. Shorewood worked closely with the studio's design agency, Stratagen Design of Los Angeles, which supplied the graphics. The resulting "pendaflex" file folder design concept took full advantage of the art assets of both movies and was a clear winner with the fans of the movie series. The package is made of IP Everest® SBS (solid bleached sulfate) paperboard - 24 point for the accordion-like outer file and 18 point for the sleeves and die-cut tabs. Each sleeve has a single plastic hub (no tray) to hold the DVD disc. The package was produced using offset lithography, four-color process inks and an overall UV coating. This was the third year for the "American Package Design Awards" competition, presented by Graphic Design: USA - the news magazine for creative professionals. Winners were chosen in eleven packaging and four in-store graphics categories. Shorewood's permanent P.O.P. display for ActiVision's Guitar Hero III was among the winning in-store graphics entries.
