In today's environmentally conscious world, consumers want to know that the paper and wood products they buy come from sustainably managed forests that will remain healthy and able to meet the needs of future generations.
International Paper answers this demand by pursuing independent third-party chain-of-custody certification to globally recognized sustainable forestry certification standards for all its manufacturing operations worldwide. The use of a particular standard depends upon the region and the availability of wood fibre. Today, the majority of the company’s paper mills are certified according to at least one of the following recognized standards: PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative, specific to the United States), Cerflor (Certificação Florestal, specific to Brazil) and ISO 14001.

PEFC
(Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification)
PEFC is a voluntary private sector initiative based on a consensus view among relevant interested parties on sustainable forest management at a regional level. It has been developed to meet internationally recognized requirements. PEFC is based on independent third-party auditing. It gives assurance to customers, and to the general public, that forests certified under the programme are managed as defined by the Helsinki criteria for economically viable, environmentally appropriate and socially beneficial management of forests. Since its launch in 1999, PEFC has become the largest forest certification umbrella organisation.
The following International Paper Products are PEFC certified: Rey Range, Pro-Design, Duo Range, JetSet Colour and PrePrint range.

FSC
(Forest Stewardship Council)
The Forest Stewarship Council was initiated and is recognised by several environmental organisations as the principal certification agency. Its standards, based on the FSC Principles & Criteria for Sustainable Forest Management, are adapted for each region. Forestry operations can seek to have their compliance with FSC standard verified by an FSC-accredited independent certification body.
Launched in 1992, the EU Eco-label is a trusted certification throughout the European Union: the "Flower" is a well-known symbol for green products. It aims at helping consumers identify which products and services are most environmentally friendly.
"This product qualifies for the European Union Eco-Label because it meets requirements that, amongst others, limit emissions to water (COD, AOX), to air (S, NOX, CO2), and limits the use of energy, fossil fuels and hazardous substances."
For more information on the European Union Eco-Label, please visit the official EU Eco-Label website at http://ec.europa.eu/ecolabel or the website of our certification body AFNOR at http://www.ecolabels.fr
"Please collect used paper for recycling".
The following International Paper products have obtained the EU Eco-Label:
CBS2 is the specification described in the C&CCC 3.2 standard relating to paper used for printing credit vouchers. The physical characteristics of JetSet 90g/m² were tested by APACS (now C&CCC) and as a result of the successful qualification JetSet was issued a certificate of conformity already in 2006.
