As International Paper expands its global presence, we are becoming more global in our charitable giving. In 2001, International Paper created a signature giving program, Coins 4 Kids that feeds more than 72,000 Kenyan schoolchildren each year. This global giving program is embraced by employees worldwide, who have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars since its inception.
We continue to seek opportunities to take our global giving programs to the next level and focus giving in our communities where our employees live and work. In 2010, International Paper gave more than $10 million in charitable donations in our communities around the globe.
International Paper and its employees give not only their money, but also give their time to make communities better places to live. You'll find our company volunteers on local boards, organizing fund-raising events, spearheading United Way campaigns and volunteering their time and talents to a variety of non-profits.
In addition to encouraging employees in their volunteer efforts, International Paper aligns its giving with focus areas that support our goal as a company. Around the globe, we are involved in programs that enhance environmental education and literacy.
Our vision as a company is to be one of the best and most respected companies in the world. Our giving programs are an important way International Paper can reach that goal. As we move forward, we will continually refine our existing programs and seek opportunities where we can make a difference in our communities, across the country and around the world.
