International Paper strongly supports third-party forest certification and internationally recognized forest certification standards as part of our ongoing sustainability and conservation commitments to our business partners and customers. We support the existence of multiple certification standards to increase the availability of certified fiber and the concept of mutual recognition, which acknowledges that responsible forest management can be achieved through a number of credible certification systems.

We have a long-standing policy of using no wood from endangered forests. Our chain-of-custody and wood fiber procurement policies are third-party certified and meet the requirements for both SFI and FSC, including FSC’s Controlled Wood Standard. Our fiber procurement system is also certified to meet the ISO 14001 standard.

By purchasing International Paper products, you are assured that the wood fiber used in your products can be tracked from responsibly managed forests. And as participants in the SFI certification standard, we are proactively improving forest management practices through logger and landowner education. The expertise they gain helps to promote practices that protect water quality, identify and protect important wildlife habitats and foster reforestation of harvested sites.
